Set out on a mission to assassinate the totalitarian penguin leader as Hardboiled Chicken. Solve Puzzles and destroy enemies with a slew of weapons and illuminate the secrets to his past while uncovering the real enemies of Albatropolis. Master fowl play in the co-op campaign as a pair of Budgie commandos on a mission to save the general’s daughter. Many lives will be destroyed, countless penguins will die!
What I say: Since its release last year the PS Vita has had a perception problem. The general thought is that there is a lack of compelling games for it. These people don’t seem to realize that Playstation Network exists an they surely don’t realize that games like Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken. Rocketbirds is the story of Harboiled Chicken and his quest to defeat the leader of the Penguins; Putzki. The game initially seems to owe a lot to games like Contra and Metal Slug, but as the game progress and you find yourself in different situations such as the jetpack levels, you see that there is a lot more to this game. Written like every cheesy action movie you’ve ever seen, the game just oozes fun and has a strange sense of humor to boot.
The controls are really tight and do a great job of emulating the challenge of the games of old. The game also has a great art style that almost looks like an animated film and it suits the tone of the game perfectly. But the real star of the game is the music by New World Revolution. The music really helps get you pumped up for the challenges the game has to offer. The thick rocking tunes are great for this kind of game.
In addition to the platforming and shooting, there are quite a few puzzle elements to keep things lively and I also like how the jetpack levels also help add variety to the game. There is also a co-op aspect to the game but as there is no real matchmaking function, I was unable to try this. Unfortunately, I didn’t know anyone else who has the game.
If you have a PS Vita and you’re looking for a great game to play, be sure to check out Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken.
Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken is also available on PS3.
