What they say: The Joker returns in “DEATH OF THE FAMILY”! He crippled Batgirl. He killed Robin. What will The Joker do now that he’s returned to Gotham City? What must Batman do to protect his secret identity and that of those who fight alongside him?

What I say: Almost everyone says The Joker is the “best” Batman villain. Yes he is Batmans opposite but the goofy exterior that always undone him really put me off. Other than his killing of Jason Todd in Death in the Family he never came off as overly threatening. With this issue of Batman this has changed.

The Joker has resurfaced after having his face removed in Detective Comics #1 a year ago. The issue starts with a horrifying attack on the GCPD and Detective Gordon. Reclaiming his face his true plan ratchets into high gear. Batman realizes The Joker is recreating his first crime. Rushing to the chemical factory that changed The Joker forever, he finds the Red Hood and leans what is being planned. As Batman struggles tragedy strikes.

In the backup we get a look at Harley Quinn and her relationship with the Joker. Let me say this as bad as you thought it ever was, this is 10 times more chilling than you ever imagined. We get inside Harleys and Jokers heads and kids it is a scary place.

Scott Snyder flat out kills here, he nails The Joker so hard it hurts. The fear and the panic is beautifully represented on the page. Greg Capullo definitely steps up his all ready incredible art work and draws you into the madness.

The new Batman story arc is off to a great start and I can’t wait to see how this plays out.

Batman #13: 10/10
MY HIGHEST POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATION!!!
