What they say: Join Adam Venture in this epic journey set in the roaring 1920’s. Together with Evelyn they are on a quest to find ancient artifacts in this exhilarating non-violent adventure game. Solve ingenious puzzles and embark on breathtaking platform challenges to outsmart the evil Clairvoix Corporation.
What I say: At first glance Adam’s Venture Chronicles might seem like an Uncharted clone, but that’s really not the case. For better or for worse, Adam’s Venture Chronicles is its own thing. Based off of a PC game that was released in episodes, this game is a puzzle based action game. You play as Adam, assistant to a scientist and your friend. The scientist thinks he has found the Garden of Eden and you are there to help him Things quick get off track as the game decides to try out being Uncharted while peppering the experience with puzzles that mostly make no sense.
The story feels episodic (since it was originally in three parts)and honestly it’s all over the place. Things happen not because it suits the story but because it seems “cool”, there is evena smoke monster like in Lost. Another thing you should know is that the game has a pretty heavy religious/Christian slant. Luckily, it’s not overbearing but some of the puzzles do seem to require some Biblical knowledge but you can guess your way through them as the puzzles are all either way easy or are luck based. The games its self was originally released in 2009 and believe me does it look it. It’s not horrible by any means but it sure is bland.
If you are looking for an action packed romp like Uncharted or Tomb Raider, you will not find it here. But if you like action games that require a little thought through their puzzles you sure could do a lot worse.
